Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about rooftop solar installation and savings calculation in Kerala.

How is the solar system capacity calculated?
To calculate the kW of a solar system, we use your monthly electricity bill, average tariff rate, and monthly generation per kW:
Capacity (kW) = Electricity Bill (₹) / (Average Tariff Rate (₹/unit) × Monthly Generation per kW)
Capacity (kW) = Bill (₹) / (7.5 × 120)
Who is eligible for the ₹78,000 subsidy?
All individual residential homeowners with a valid KSEB domestic electricity connection and suitable rooftop ownership are eligible for the subsidy. Commercial and industrial properties are not eligible for central residential subsidy but can claim accelerated depreciation tax benefits.
How much roof space do I need for solar installation?
With modern high-efficiency panels, each panel requires approximately 25 sq. ft. For a 3 kW system with 6 panels, you will need approximately 150 sq. ft. of clear, shadow-free roof space.
What happens during monsoon or cloudy days in Kerala?
Solar panels produce power using diffuse sunlight even on overcast rainy days. Under KSEB Net Metering, excess solar power produced during sunny summer months accumulates as bank credits that automatically offset your electricity consumption during monsoon season.
